Series Saturday: Nancy A. Collins’ Golgotham

Hello! Sorry for the late Series Saturday post. I’ve started a new job this week and it’s ten hour days, so I’m adjusting to the new hours and such.

Today I’m going to highlight a series I found two years ago- the Golgotham novels by Nancy A. Collins. I love this series! I’d put it in Urban Fantasy, but the books definitely have a different touch to them, which is part of what drew me into the story.

Without further ado 🙂

Like most Manhattanites, aspiring artist Tate can’t resist a good rental deal-even if it’s in the city’s strangest neighborhood, Golgotham, where for centuries werewolves, centaurs, and countless other creatures have roamed the streets.

Her new landlord is a sorcerer name Hexe, who is determined to build his reputation without using dark, left-hand magic. As Tate is drawn into Hexe’s fascinating world, they both find that the right hand does not always know what the left hand is doing-and avoiding darkness is no easy trick…

Located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Golgotham has been the city’s supernatural neighborhood for centuries. Populated by countless creatures from myth and legend, the neighborhood’s most prominent citizens are the Kymera, a race of witches who maintain an uneasy truce with New York City’s humans…

Tate Eresby has accepted the unusual sights and sounds of Golgotham and made it her home. Unfortunately, a magazine has alerted trendsetting hipsters to its existence and they’ve descended upon the community-along with an anti-Kymera faction known as The Sons of Adam. The sudden influx of tourists escalates racial tensions to a boiling point when two Kymerans are murdered and rioting fills the streets.

It has been several months since Tate Eresby developed her new magical ability to bring whatever she creates to life, but she is still learning to control her power. Struggling to make a living as an artist, she and Hexe can barely make ends meet, but they are happy.

That is until Golgotham’s criminal overlord Boss Marz is released from prison, bent on revenge against the couple responsible for putting him there. Hexe’s right hand is destroyed, leaving him unable to conjure his benign magic. Attempts to repair the hand only succeed in plunging Hexe into a darkness that can’t be lifted—even by news that Tate is carrying his child.

Now, with her pregnancy seeming to progress at an astonishing rate, Tate realizes that carrying a possible heir to the Kymeran throne will attract danger from all corners, even beyond the grave…

If you’ve not read this series yet, and enjoy urban fantasy with a unique touch (in my humble opinion 🙂 ), I highly recommend giving this series a try.

Hello. I’m taking over this Series Saturday to promote the release of The Duchess 😀

A high ‘Lady of the Court’, that’s what one newspaper called the large stone building that had once housed prisoners no one else wanted—the mentally and physically ill. That’s how it became known as The Duchess. It was meant to be a safe place for the patients, who were both gifted and non-gifted. But something went terribly wrong. Angry spirits attacked the living and many died within the stone walls before it was closed down.

The newest owner wants the building cleansed of the darkness. She calls in Delilah Isles and Milly West to do the job. It doesn’t take long for the two gifted women to realize that something is exceptionally Dark at The Duchess. Abuse of both the mentally and physically ill is ripe in the air and both of them see and feel the damage done to those who dwelled within the building. Abuse that was still happening to the ghosts trapped inside. The more they dig, the worse their findings get.

Their client is giving them three weeks to do the job, but they soon realize they have far less time than that. The dead and the Dark won’t leave easily, and they will stop at nothing to finish what they started in life.

~

I do hope you all enjoy this chapter of the Isles and West Mysteries! I did not take it easy on Delilah and Milly in this book. They go through a great deal- both personally and with the case. Of course, they work for N.E.S.S., which means taking care of dangerous ghosts and the Dark are what they do for a living 🙂

The department doesn’t believe him, and puts him on early retirement, despite his many years of service to the Chicago Police Department, which sends him into a downward spiral.

Two years later, Danny gets an invitation from the beautiful, young and very attractive Detective Angelica Cross to join a secret branch of the FBI to help her track down Vincent, the wayward vamp.

But renegade werewolves, meddling immortal witches and Danny’s strange visions of a life lived a century ago with Angelica make things more difficult than it should be.

She can fight evil, but can she fight the darkness in her own blood?

After the disastrous events with Miranda have subsided, Danny and Angelica have to adjust to a new kind of life at the Paranormal Investigative Division.

Fiona is still on the loose, and she has all of Hell on her side. Danny begins to enhance his psychic abilities with the help of a soul just like his. Angelica is caught between a rock and a very dark place.

Can their love survive these new trials, or will the past tear them apart?

As I said, if you haven’t given this series a shot, I recommend doing so. It’s a wonderful series, and there is a fourth book coming 🙂

A Recommendation

Hello, and Happy Tuesday!

As most of you who’ve been following me for awhile know, I LOVE the Demons of Oblivion series by Skyla Dawn Cameron. Vampires, witches, demons, hunters, a pet saber-tooth… What more could a reader ask for? Besides more books, that is 🙂 Today is the release day for the last (cries hysterically!) book in the series- Oblivion.

You can still get the other four books on sale here, but only until August 12th, so hurry!

I highly recommend this series for those who love urban fantasy. I can’t rec it enough, actually. Below is the cover and blurb for Oblivion (I’m reading it now 🙂 ).

Earthquakes. Plagues. Rivers of blood. The ever-so-popular rain of toads. When end of the world fare is on the rise, it’s well past business as usual in a city where the veil between dimensions is thin.

Quarter-demon Persephone Takata isn’t so keen on killing herself anymore. This time when death approaches, she’s ready to take a stand and fight to protect the woman she loves, along with everyone around them as the apocalypse swings into full force.

Meanwhile, trapped in her home dimension where her antichrist father’s rule is weakening, Mishka Thiering’s hopes for revenge on the living are put on hold when she stumbles across the truth the Court has kept hidden for centuries. Her death was the last piece of the puzzle, leading to a change in the dimensional landscape, affecting humans and demons alike.

Despite its fractured numbers, the shadowy organization who has kept tabs on Peri and Mishka for years is still very much in the game, ready to set into motion their final plan. For there is something much, much worse waiting in the wings—something old, something powerful, and something far more terrifying than Oblivion or any of the creatures it’s spawned.

Alliances, betrayals, casualties.

This is war. And only one sister can win.
